McBoot
McBoot is a boot selector. Oh no! Not another one, I hear you cry -but this one is different, trust me!
Normally the familiar GEM interface isn't available during booting which explains why there are as many different fronts ends to boot selector as there are boot selectors.
GEM is familiar and easy to use so the author decided to re-invent the wheel and recreate a GEM-lookalike environment complete with Desktop, windows, menu lists and full mouse point and click functionality! It proves once again the obvious solution can sometimes be the best, here's some other features to whet your appetite:
- All functions and settings are set from the main program, no extra utilities required
- McBoot can be configured on the fly, during booting, or set up at your leisure by running McBoot from the desktop
- Online help
- Resolution independent, from 640x200 (ST-Medium) upwards
- Files are renamed to de/activate selections, like other boot selectors...
- Files in one folder can be copied from to another folder and renamed at the same time, which is a much neater way of selecting between INF files etc.
- File/s and folder/s can be moved between folders (e.g. vector fonts for NVDI can be moved into and out of the HIDE folder for different setups)
- For each folder up to three extensions can be set which means mixed filetypes can be renamed (e.g. in the MagiC APPS folder PRGs and APPs can be renamed as desired)
- The Cookie jar can set, i.e. be extended, and Cookies can be
- McBoot can set environmental variables
- The physical sequence of files can reordered
- McBoot supports the MagiC AUTOEXEC.BAT
- Runs under MagiC Mac
